Busia County, with a population of 893,681, faces significant socioeconomic challenges, including an 83% poverty index and a 54% food insecurity rate. Finger millet, a highly nutritious and resilient crop, holds promise for addressing these challenges. However, its widespread adoption is hindered by various factors such as limited market access, poor seed quality, and inadequate knowledge among farmers. As a starting point to initiate the project that would address these issues, an inception workshop for the Accelerated Variety Improvement and Seed Systems in Africa (AVISA) project was held in Busia County, Kenya.
