Research associate- agronomist

The International Potato
Center (CIP), on behalf of CIMMYT, is seeking one (01) Research Associate,
Agronomist to perform the all the activities in line with the project
objectives.

CIMMYT has established a
hosting agreement with CIP for a project in Mozambique, leveraging CIP’s legal
and operational framework to facilitate administrative services.

About the position:

The Research Associate,
Agronomist will be based in Lichinga, Mozambique, and will report to the
Project Manager at CIMMYT.

Key responsibilities:

 

The selected candidates
will mainly focus on the responsibilities below:

  • Coordination and supervision of
    the field technicians in the target districts
  • Preparing and submit annual
    plan and budgets for inputs and kit for the project beneficiaries.
  • Preparing all activity plans
    and budgets for crops production, demonstration sites and farmers
    training.
  • Conducting training needs assessment
    and prepare training modules and materials, train farmers on production
    techniques and use of improved inputs and technologies
  • Preparing protocols, design and
    establish results demonstration plots for the CIMMYT promoted crops.
  • Designing and Implement farm
    field schools’ techniques to enhance producer’s participation.
  • Planning and conducting the
    field days in collaboration with the SDAEs
  • Collaboration with the
    government extension workers at the district and provincial levels to
    disseminate CIMMYT promoted technologies and techniques.
  • Participating in technical
    meetings and councils.
  • Collaboration with the
    Monitoring and Evaluation and Learning (MEAL) personnel in the development
    of progress and impact indicators for project monitoring.
  • Preparing monthly progress
    reports and submit to the coordinator.
  • Performing any other duties
    that may be assigned by the supervisor.


Requirements

The
selected candidate should have the following skills, knowledge, experience, and
personal characteristics:

  • ·       Masters’ Degree in Agronomy or related area.
    ·       Advanced Agronomic Practices: Crop management, soil
    science, pest control, sustainable farming techniques, and modern agricultural
    technologies.

    ·       At least 6 years of working experience designing,
    conducting, and analysing agricultural experiments, and proficiency in
    scientific research methods and data analysis.

    ·       Practical
    experience in farming operations and familiarity with fieldwork.

    ·       Experience
    providing training and advisory services to farmers and agricultural workers.

    ·       Managing
    natural resources, understanding the environmental impact of agricultural
    practices, and implementing sustainability measures.

    ·       Understanding
    agricultural markets, trade, economic principles, and policies.

    ·       Stakeholder
    Engagement: Working with farmers, agribusinesses, government agencies, and
    NGOs; building professional relationships

    ·       Data Management and Analysis: Using software for data collection,
    management, and analysis (e.g., GIS, statistical software).

    ·       Information
    Technology: Using modern IT tools and platforms for agricultural research,
    communication, and management.

    ·       Languages:
    Fluent in Portuguese, English and local language.
