The International Potato Center (CIP) is seeking a
consultant with a strong commitment to proactive learning, ready to take on
responsibilities at various levels for ARC-based potato seed production across
West Bengal. The consultant will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of
field activity implementation and reporting. The position will be based in
Mohitnagar (Jalpaiguri) and Rangbull (Darjeeling), West Bengal, and will report
to the CIP Project Manager, West Bengal. This is a temporary, contractual role,
with the possibility of extension based on performance and budget availability.
The assignment requires frequent travel across West Bengal.
Objectives:
The selected candidate will mainly focus on these
tasks/responsibilities below:
- Promote Apical Rooted Cutting (ARC) technology.
- Monitor ARC production in nurseries, as well as G0 and G1 potato
seed production in partner and stakeholder fields.
- Collaborate closely with the project team to conduct farmer
training sessions and demonstration trials, integrating improved varieties and
production practices to enhance farmers' incomes.
- Collect baseline survey data, trial results, and support senior
researchers in preparing technical progress reports and analyses.
- Contribute to the development of training materials in the local
language.
Requirements
- A degree in Science or B.Sc. in Agriculture/Horticulture is
preferred.
- Relevant work experience in agriculture, nursery management, or
seed production.
- Experience working on field-based rural development projects that
promote agricultural or technological innovations, preferably in potato farming
within India.
- Proficiency in basic computer skills.
- Strong organizational and time management abilities.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate
effectively within a team.
- Willingness to travel frequently within districts of West Bengal.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in English;
proficiency in Hindi, Nepali, and Bengali is an added advantage.
