In response to the urgent need posed by the climate crisis, the focus for 2024 shifts towards catalyzing action for our ocean and climate.

About World Ocean Day

Recognizing the interconnectedness of a healthy ocean and a stable climate, this multi-year initiative aims to foster transformative collaboration at local, national, and international levels. The goal extends beyond environmental sustainability to encompass social justice and equity.

World Ocean Day @ CGIAR

On this important day, CGIAR invites you to explore investment opportunities in the blue economy, such as sustainable fisheries, renewable energy, and ocean technology.

This aligns with the mission of WorldFish, a CGIAR research center dedicated to transforming aquatic food systems to reduce hunger, malnutrition, and poverty. WorldFish’s work emphasizes sustainable practices in fisheries and aquaculture, empowering small-scale fishers, and ensuring the health of our oceans for future generations.

CGIAR’s work across multiple centers emphasizes the importance of sustainable fisheries and aquaculture practices in providing food security and economic opportunities in coastal areas, advocating for policies supporting small-scale fishers and fisherwomen, vital to coastal economies and traditional communities.

Harnessing foods from the ocean can create a resilient, sustainable, and innovative food system that fosters innovation and promotes the sustainable development of small-scale fisheries and coastal communities, ensuring a healthier future for both people and planet.
