The BE EU2024 Conference, “Innovation: a Key Enabler for Sustainable Food System Transformation in Africa,” will be hosted by the Belgian Presidency of the Council of the European Union, in collaboration with various entities, on May 23, 2024, in Brussels, Belgium.

The event seeks to unite experts from Africa and Europe, encompassing representatives from government, research institutions, civil society, and other stakeholders.

The conference aims to highlight the pivotal role of innovation in addressing global food system challenges, particularly in Africa. Food systems intersect with critical issues such as malnutrition, climate change, and biodiversity loss, necessitating urgent transformation.

The conference aims to provide actionable insights and foster collaboration through keynote speeches, panel discussions, and interactive sessions. Emphasizing inclusivity, the event will feature gender-balanced representation, youth involvement, and diverse geographical participation.

CGIAR Participation

CGIAR’s Executive Managing Director, Ismahane Elouafi, will deliver a keynote speech emphasizing the criticality of transforming food systems through innovation in Low—and Middle-Income Countries (LMICs). The event will be live streamed.
