Initiative:
Plant Health
Overview
The Plant Health Initiative builds on the foundation of decades of critical, and often pioneering, work by CGIAR and partners on an array of crop pests and diseases. This forms the basis for holistic plant health protection and preparedness through a global diagnostic network, leveraging an existing, coordinated phytosanitary network of CGIAR Germplasm Health Units. The Initiative focuses on effective management of plant health threats through co-creation, validation, and adoption of integrated pest and disease management approaches, including clean seed systems, host plant resistance, biological control, and use of environmentally safer pesticides.
The Initiative consists of five work packages:
- Bridging knowledge gaps and networks
- Building capability for risk assessment and data management
- Improving integrated pest and disease management
- Tools and processes for protecting food chains
- Equitable and inclusive scaling of plant health innovations to achieve impacts
