Where we work: Rwanda
In collaboration with the Government of Rwanda and VIAMO, we piloted a high-frequency, scalable data collection system that leverages digital tools for crowdsourcing diet quality data. The system, deployed via unstructured supplementary service data (USSD) platform, allowing users of both smartphones and basic feature phones to participate.
The system successfully crowdsourced a year-long dietary data from participating respondents throughout the country using the Diet Quality Questionnaire (DQQ). DQQ captures consumption information allowing for the generation of at least 13 indicators of diet quality. These data were collected on a weekly basis and directly linked to a dashboard, where metrics of diet quality can be tracked across space, time, and social groups in (near) real-time.
The system serves as a decision-support platform to engage, inform, and empower decision-makers to make data-driven choices to address malnutrition and dietary choices.
