Milestone achievements

A milestone is a time-bound target that reflects progress toward a planned result. Milestones include outputs, output use, and outcomes along CGIAR Research Program (CRP) impact pathways as appropriate to the scale and maturity of the work.

In 2021, CRPs and Platforms reported progress against annual planned milestones. A total of 579 milestones were reported for the year. Of the total, 67% were reported as complete, 2% as changed, and 5% as cancelled. For 26% of milestones, status was not provided. In 2021, 71% of milestones had principal or significant gender relevance.

Most milestones were also mapped to CGIAR System-level Outcomes (SLOs): 30% (122) of these were related to reducing poverty (SLO1); 51% (247) were linked to improved food and nutrition security for health (SLO2); and 19% (77) were related to improved natural resources and ecosystem services (SLO3).

Fourteen United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) were targeted by milestones. Of these, 52% (303) of milestones were linked to SDG2 (zero hunger), 32% (187) to SDG17 (partnerships for the goals), 32% (185) to SDG13 (climate action), 31% (180) to SDG12 (responsible production and consumption), and 27% (157) to SDG1 (no poverty).
