Hong Kong Fair Trade Fair and Symposium
In keeping with CGIAR efforts to reach out to civil society organizations (CSO's) and remain engaged in global talks focusing on trade, environment, and agriculture, among other topics, the CGIAR and the World Bank co-sponsored a booth at the Hong Kong Trade Fair and Symposium held on December 13-15, 2005.
The three-day trade fair brought together over 30 small scale producer organizations, numerous NGO's and international organizations from Asia, Africa, the Middle East and Latin Amerca displaying and selling their products, including coffee, chocolate, spices, crafts, textiles and many others. The joint World Bank/CGIAR booth was located next to those of other civil society organizations and attracted the attention of participants who showed a positive interest in the work of the CGIAR Centers.
The one-day Hong Kong Trade and Development Symposium involved top experts on fair trade and international commerce in sessions organized by the International Centre for Trade and Sustainable Development (ICTSD).
Antoine Bouet, Senior Research Fellow, IFPRI was a featured speaker at several meetings and represented the CGIAR including at the International Food and Agricultural Trade Policy Council (IPC) Seminar on December 13th where he made a presentation on the development impact of U.S.-EU agricultural proposals in the Doha Round.
